    Hi ladyguenevere,

    Ok this is beginning to out of my field now.
    But if memory serves me correctly:

    That's for network boot. It's generally used on THIN clients so don't worry about it.
    Normally Nvidia Boot agent is last on the list and the boot sequence never gets to it.

    Just seem like standard Memory Card reader entries, perfectly normal.

    .Let me try and explain better what was formerly named my cd rom is now listed as a DVD RW drive D .When I right click and go to properties this is what it lists in this order ATAPI DVD A DH16A6S SCSI CdRom device
    next is Generic USB CF Reader USB Device disk device
    next is Generic USB MS Reader USB Device disk device
    next is Generic USB SD Reader USB Device disk device
    next is Generic USB SM Reader USB Device disk device
    next is WDC WD20 EADS OOR680 SCSI Disk Device
    So say I put in a game CD if I have never used the cd before it lets me download the game.but after the first use if i try to play the game again I can't because the program has beewn changed to a read only filile access denied.Or if it's a game I had on there recently and do an in stall ill mget a mesage like not compaqtible with this operating system. And this is actually the number off the new hard drive that was installedmy hard disk WDC WD20 EADS OOR680 SCSI Disk Device
    why is in ia removabl disk D drive and not C ?

    Hello ladygueneversheart,

    I would just like to add some input into this thread if neither yourself or Starbuck mind;
    The only way for BIOS settings to be changed would be either by someone physically accessing the BIOS on your PC as it boots up. This cannot be done remotely. Or if part of a system either software/hardware is removed or added, and the BIOS automatically configures it to work with the system.

    If you wish, it should be possible to disable this Nvidia option from the boot menu by going to the ADVANCED tab in your BIOS and then disabling Boot from LAN or ONBOARD LAN BOOT ROM, or something similar. This will disable any ability for your PC to be booted via a network device.

    As for the above, I am guessing that you are looking at the "Hardware" tab when you go into the properties of a drive? The above list consists lots of memory card readers, so I am assuming you have some form of multi card reader installed on your system (physically via USB)

    The reason removable disks are set to D, is because the C drive will point to your Windows/boot drive, which is almost always located on a physical and permanent hard drive within your system. D drive is then generically pointed towards a CD drive. This is due to the advancement in hardware over the years as shown here;

    • Assign the drive letter A: to the first floppy disk drive (drive 0), and B: to the second floppy disk drive (drive 1).
    • Assign a drive letter, beginning with C: to the first active primary partition recognized upon the first physical hard disk
    • Assign subsequent drive letters to the first primary partition upon each successive physical hard disk drive.
    • Assign subsequent drive letters to every recognized logical partition, beginning with the first hard drive and proceeding through successive physical hard disk drives.
    • Assign subsequent drive letters to any RAM disk
    • Assign subsequent drive letters to any additional floppy or optical disk drives.

    I hope this helps in some way of clarifying some parts of the situation.

    As starbuck has noted this has gone a bit out of the Malware removal arena. If it is not solved shortly I will move it. Your input is perfectly appropriate and welcomed DirtyPolo. :)

    Hi DirtyPolo,
    Thanks for chipping in with suggestions but I think I'm going to admit defeat and take it to the shop on Monday and see if they can erase everything and start from scratch again with my win7 operating system,and while it's in the shop go and get a win7fordummies book and start studying up so maybe I can at least learn the lingo if nothing else LOL .
