    This ability to view your desktop is available in Windows7 as well but it is so disguised that it is close to invisible. There is a tiny rectangle in the far right lower corner next to the clock in the System Tray. Mouse over it and it will display the desktop and if you click on it the desktop will open leaving everything else as is.
