Rich, there are always down sides to being an early adopter. Nothing at all wrong with waiting. I was still using W98SE when XP hit the scene and then I waited some more.

Makes sense Bill, I see no reason to be the first to have any version of Windows.

Windows 10 is different as there will be no service packs.
Instead, Microsoft plans to issue updates as and when they are ready, rather than batching them together in one huge update.

No Service Packs For Windows 10

Windows 10 definitely sucks for me, the laptop just will not install it whatever I try, goes to a blank black screen and doesn't finish installing. That is an Acer Aspire 5935G

The desktop gives me this lovely little message.

Nvidia say the chipset is out of date and won't release new drivers for it. Yet the computer itself is only four years old, however I now know the motherboard design and therefore everything on it, is around six or even ten years old.
It's a Packard Bell, (Read Acer) Imedia S1300 Runs Windows 7 which is what it came with and was a quick cheap way of getting Windows 7 at the time.

It was my understanding that Nvidia had released updated drivers Nev, just not for your system?
That's a shame, especially if it is only 4 years old. But honestly you aren't really missing anything. I have always been
on the early upgrade team and for a change I literally don't care now. I have never had a better running desktop than my current model and I cannot find a reason to risk it on a new admittedly "buggy" Windows 10.

Richard good luck with whatever version of Windows you choose. I don't blame you for waiting. As long as you are happy with what you are running and it can do what you want it to do that's all that matters.

Well I finally did it. I shut off Emsisoft uninstalled Mbam and went into safe mode and installed Paltalk. In order to open it in Windows I have to right click the icon and choose "run as administrator" and I can get into Paltalk chatrooms and hear talking! I can live with all that silliness as long as I can get into it. Requirements for new versions will be fun I bet! Now I will keep Windows 10 on the All-in-One for now as it seems to be booting quicker as well lately.

Like every other release of Windows OS, the first year is always faulty :nyahh:

My advice, if your rig is NOT broke don't 'fix' it with a Windows upgrade.
Wait at least one year after first release to change and ONLY if the 'upgrade' actually gives you something you NEED :geek: vs something Micro$oft wants to sell you.

Millions are using Windows10 without any serious issues. It is faster and a vast improvement on previous OS's.

Windows10 has now exceeded 53 million installs.
    That's 1500 machines a second.

I believe Rich was talking about himself, Bill.

I wasn't suggesting he was but certainly I'm not the only senior here. I'm not thin-skinned either, but it sounded to me like a broad-brush characterization of all seniors being resistant to change. My mistake, sorry.

I was referring to my wife and most of my client group who are at least 75% seniors. Certainly not techs, you can't be a tech and cling to the past, or sooner or later you aren't a tech any more so please do not take it personally, I didn't and I am a senior also!

To be quite honest, in my opinion change is great if it is required, if indeed there is a great improvement on the old, if it genuinely serves a real purpose.
However there is too much change for the sake of change in order to keep a companies profits up and where so called improvements are just rubbish invented by a sales department. In my opinion Microsoft are too far down that road already having spent millions on what now looks like a slightly different version of Windows 7 with a mix of Windows 8.1.
What exactly can Windows 10 do that couldn't be done on Windows 7 or even XP? Except the older systems were slower, what exactly is the improvement?
The major changes seem to be excessive security that just gets in the way of any work your trying to do, and perhaps the new voice command stuff that I can quite happily live without as it is really only of any real use to severely disabled folk.
OK at some time I will take Windows 10 on board, perhaps with a new build or some cheap laptop bought in a supermarket store as it will be the only way to get a new computer, however for now I am sticking with these two Windows 7 machines as I have no choice anyway considering they won't run Windows 10.

Thanks Nev you phrased it so much better than I did and I agree with every word you wrote.
You analogy is perfection in that as a consumer one buys something that is "a better mousetrap" not to keep up with the Jones' or have the newest version. I think as techs we have more of an obligati0on to buy change that actually is positive and improves our ability to do something. There is really nothing in Windows 10 that I can see, which fits that description in any way. I don't see where the graphics are any better as Vista and 7 had a huge improvement in the graphics and especially color. There is nothing I can see that Windows 10 does better or faster than my Windows 7 pc, and in fact while now my 10 machine is booting much faster, my Windows 7 still boots up quicker. Now that is because the hardware is better but so what faster is faster. I have no need of my Windows 7 pc to be faster as I have trouble seeing the screens change now. Admittedly this is a very new pc with much better hardware but, it is what I use the most.
When the day comes that Windows 10 is as stable as 7, and I amsure it will happen, then of course I will be there.
I still like the "File, Edit, View, Tools Help" menus in every box because id do a lot of "select all" copy and then paste to somewhere else and Windows 10 cannot do that. We have had that menu bar since Windows 95 and I don't uynderstand how it help[s me to change that. I don;t like the space wasted by pinning files to the taskbar when "Quick Launch" used space so much better as the icons were closer together. Changing these two things or making it harder to get to them served no useful purpose whatsoever so I do most of my copy and paste on the Win 7 pc because it is easier and quicker to do. The Start Menu is an attempt to appease the "Windows 8 haters", but why was it necessary to still leave that bloated mess that was the Windows 8 "Metro" screen now to bloat up the start menu and what happened to the most commonly used programs being first up on that menu. Thank god Stardock8 and Classic Start still work in Windows 10 because that Start Menu again slows down my use of the computer.

Upgrading to a new OS should be because there are functions made quicker or easier to do, not because Microsoft needs more money. If Microsoft were like Apple, then their changes would be because of improvements. It took me a long time to appreciate "Aero" so how did it help me to take it away? I'm sorry I am not a gamer and I don't use my computer for fun very often so I like to have it run my business and household and to do so, Windows 7 makes all the more sense to keep using and moving on to something else which offers me not a single improvement but also the challenge of all the issues that would slow me down using it until the bugs are ironed out. I mean anew browser is added to Windows 10 and they admit it isn't even complete in its development so why make it the default browser when Microsoft admits it isn't even finished yet. I just can't make any of this make sense.

The Win 95 start menu is dead and thankfully so. It lived a good life of twenty years but it's time to change and the Win 8 style start page is great. It did take some time to get used to and figure out how to use but once doing so I love the change. Matter of fact I'm glad MS didn't abandon it in Win 10. Now if they could just get some other things working in Win 10 maybe I'll install it. Maybe
