I have just sent an email to all my clients telling them to ignore requests to install Windows 10 at this time.
I have been personally deluged with phone calls with people with Windows 10 issues that are so bad they have lost the ability to boot their computers with a variety of separate and different situations and they are outstripping my ability to get to them, so in short my business is out of control due the the issuing of an operating system that appears to not have been ready for "Prime Time".

I had been suggesting that Windows 8.1 users should go ahead and upgrade and have been waiting to determine whether or not Windows 7 users have any reason to do so. I am rescinding the first and cancelling the second.

For myself I have two pcs that cannot get on Paltalk. And I have a Sony laptop with 16 gb memory and a high i5 Gen 3 quad core cpu that was so fast I never saw the need of changing it to a Ssd drive because I couldn't see the screens change as it was. Windows 10 handled it for me it now has the bootup and surfing speed rivaling my old Netbook! That is the second Windows 10 unit I have. and I will be returning to Windows 7 and 8.1 respectively later today. What booted in 10 seconds now is more like 3 minutes on the laptop and 2 minutes on the All-in-One.

It appears the broke the spell of one good OS followed by 1 bad OS as they now have 2 in a row that should never been released! Next time I will wait until Windows is ready for us.

I was able to install Paltalk - the version you said you could not install though as you know from my email I did have to do a few things to get it to run correctly. Would you like instructions how to do this?

I didn't try my laptop with Paltalk but i'm very sure I can get it working. Remember Rich Windows 10 is brand new there are going to be a few rough edges for a few months. Overall I am not having the issues you are having with the operating system this is on 5 co-workers laptops (personal not company obviously) and several PC's 9 overall so far, One PC I did have an issue but a GPU driver tweak fixed it.

Additionally my clients most of whom were higher end are not having any issues with W10, and the few regular clients still under my system warranty I guided them through it and everything is fine. Give the OS some time.

I am running Windows10 on four machines with no issues whatsoever. That was a problem with Paltalk, not Windows10, Rich.
They look to have fixed the audio issue. I did stop Windows10 driver updates to stop graphic issues on one machine.
All in all it is working OK for me. Both Nvidia and AMD have now driver updates especially for Windows10.
I am running Paltalk version 119 with no issues at present.

Hi Rich. Too early to say Windows10 sucks and it's crap. I quite like Windows 10.
Tell your clients to install this way instead of via Windows updates. You should roll back your computers,Rich and upgrade again.

Most people's updates are failing and causing problems to upgrade to Windows 10.
I wrote this quick help tutorial for anyone having difficulties. This works.
Check your update history to see what updates have been successful or failed.
By-pass updates and get the upgrade straight from microsoft.

Dougies guide is just about spot on.
Only things I do differently is to actually remove the AV and AM programs... reinstalling them once Win10 is loaded.
Also make sure the system is clean..... clear out any old programs, temp files and any other rubbish before upgrading.

A guy at work was selling his Win7 laptop as he hardly used it.
Asked me to roll back to factory settings and install Win10 .... so it was nice and clean for who ever bought it.
Day after I gave it back to him, he said he'd decided not to sell it now as Win10 was so fast and easy to use.

Have upgraded 2 other systems for work mates this week... all are very happy with Win10.

You have to be adaptable to change.... nothing stays the same forever.

Don't keep comparing and trying to make Win10 into Win7.... it's not Win7.

I agree it's not Win7, It's not Win 8. It's Win 10, and though it does not have the comfort zone of Win 7, and the familiarity of the easy Win 7 menus, it's still a very nice OS from my perspective so far. I am able to do everything on 10 that I could on 7. Old games included. Did I like Windows 7 Aero? yeah I did. Is it a deal breaker that Aero isn't there anymore? Not really the transparency is enough for me, although they do need gradients in the windows IMO. So far there are only two issues I have with Windows 10. Windows gradients, and forced driver updates, both of which can be worked around, and I have a feeling Microsoft will fix both anyway, They won't fix the KB updates but I thin they will offer users a simple way to turn off forced driver updates. Windows gradients ... not sure if they will fix that but I manually fixed that myself already.

Chrono please do post your Paltalk fixes (or email me) as I cannot even install it. I can click forever and nothing comes up. I tried beta version as well as newest version no luck and I am about to restore the All-in-One to Windows 8.1 as I just don't have the time to be screwing around with half assed versions of Windows. My laptop was so excited to get back to Windows 8.1 and it is moving 3 times as fast. It is my understanding that the free clean installs don't work because you cannot activate them so I'' rejoin this BS next year. I have yet to see very much for free that was worth owning and this is being proven daily with Windows 10.

I have always been tech first but I am sick and tired of playing with things not ready for release and I would bet there are far bigger challenges coming real soon on this version.

Sorry about your issues Rich I really am I know it's frustrating, and it seems to happen every time a new operating system is initially released as there are those that use specific non-popular programs like Paltalk etc and they cannot initially get it running right. If you are finding Windows 8 is working better for you, not only with being able to use Paltalk, but if you find it faster in general use you might as well stick to Win 8.1 until you feel comfortable installing 10, with some fixes you like in place already there. There may be bigger challenges coming soon with this OS and i'm fully ready for that. Remember typically operating systems get better over time. The public mandates that for usability. Gamers will demand it, and OEM's likewise, will demand it.

Regarding paltalk. I installed it when I had initially upgraded to 10 over 7. I am running a stand alone install of 10 right now on my main PC and having no issues. I don't use Paltalk as you know my hours are not conducive to being on Paltalk here with the team at 9:00-11:00Pm ETS when I am on CST and I work evenings. though, and as we are in this thread I have installed paltalk again, the newest version on the official paltalk website. No issue installing. The latest version seems to install and work fine. Here are a few screens.

That is my paltalk solution above. If I can get it working why can't you? Why would you go back to windows 8.1 over you not being able to get paltalk working - and this is on your gen3 I5 laptop right? Again it installs and works perfectly for me. If you need me to remote you I can do that too. I'll get it working no problem.

If it's a particular issue with only your laptop, then please post the exact laptop model here, and post some screenshots of the installation failure. Additionally you know you have an abundance of hard drives around you are a builder. I have 8 here still. You could always install 10 on another hard drive exclusive of 7 and install it on your PC instead of your laptop.

Tell you what I will do. I'm going to log out here and install paltalk on my own gen 3 I5 Intel laptop. Now, that one has a windows 10 install over windows 7 and the model should be very similar to your laptop. I will post back with success or failure.

Ok, on Wi-Fi. Just installed it on the same type laptop you had described to me that you were trying to install paltalk on. It installs fine with the latest version of paltalk. I don't know what else to tell you.

Rich on a final note before I log out and go into a 6 hour gaming marathon, about not being able to activate windows 10 with a clean install that is not true you have gotten false information from someone or somewhere. What you have to do is do the in place upgrade first, you understand that I presume, and then you use the MS tool here.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

Do be aware that you really need to use W10 as the upgraded version one day or so, due to your exact hardware configuration needing to get properly synced, and sent to the MS servers. Once that is done and it does not take long as I said about a day is safe, and I think you have already done that because according to you - you thought you could not clean install (which is false) so I presume your Windows 10 installation is not a clean install and you are using 10 on top of 8.1 right now. Once MS has that copy of your hardware config sent to the servers you can download the W10 image from the tool I linked and put it on a bootable USB stick or a blank DVD. You can then wipe your hard drive and yes ... you can do a clean install. I did it. All of the free windows 10 leys are generic. Your W10 validation after activation does NOT go by any existing key you have again it becomes generic because MS knows your exact configuration but it does use your key to validate you have a valid windows 7-8-8.1 installation, so when you do the clean install once you activate it's automatically done there is no need to ever enter a key again (clean install) - they will see your system snapshot and it will activate with no key. When you setup windows 10 though, you use a "local" plain account not a MS account when you set it up you "skip" -- "skip" out of the prompts to get you to logon with a MS account.

However in your case If you are pleased with windows 8.1 and you want to use it there is nothing wrong with that either! It's after all, a recent operating system itself. Continue using 8.1 if your system is faster with it and you can use your paltalk.

Paltalk is something I do once a week and it is important to me and sure I can use other pcs but I just don't need a pc that can't do everything I care about. I have tried everything to install that thing but the one thing I won't do is try a compatible mode as when I have done that in the past, the whole system would become unstable. It's not I can't run it I can't even install it. I know that Emsisoft has issues with it but I disabled that and it made no difference and it ran perfectly well with it in 8.1. I did finally get it to run on my laptop before I moved it back to 8.1 but screens were shaking and the whole thing felt really unstable.

Well this thread has got me running the laptop exclusively tonight. The screen "shaking" is likely due to it using the MS default driver instead of the real intel or AMD or NV driver. My laptop is an HP 8440p but there are a few models of this laptop. One has the Intel HD graphics and the other like mine has the NVS 3100 nVidia drivers - which I have. After that last post here in CHF the laptop rebooted after it apparently installed the default MS adapter because when it initially rebooted after the patches (and the driver) it was at 1024x768 resolution instead of the 1366x768 native resolution and ... it was shaky but I knew why because i'm very familiar with GPU drivers. It did allow me to set it at 1366x768 though but it was still a bit shaky. You want to guess what happened next? Well, it downloaded a few more patches and guess what? It also downloaded the appropriate windows 10 NV NVS-3100 driver which is brand new - and it runs absolutely perfect now no more shaky webpages, which are actually caused by that MS driver also not having the appropriate refresh rate too. No yellow exclamation in the Device Manager. new GPU driver installed correctly.

    f08759367fc87bc5a8f81f0418920e20.jpg

Everything is great now. Touchpad works perfect. USB's all working. Sound is perfect. It even works with the IDT sound panel for configuration. My thought are that you have a conflict somewhere, and likely your Intel GPU driver is not installed correctly (not your fault) - I have read that the older Intel GPU's in laptops are having some issues and that installing the windows 8 with this configuration change solves it for some. I know that if not already the GPU you have will be supported.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...19?tab=question&status=AllReplies&auth=1#tabs

That said, you might want to do a clean install if you feel comfortable and if you have a backup image I know you are vigilant about images. If you would like I have offered to remote and see what may be conflicting. I know something is not right sometimes no matter how good you are it takes a second pair of eyes looking at an issue sometimes. Also, I know I already asked but I will ask again Richard, what are we working with?

    laptop model - (exact)
    Installed programs-

Additionally can you please provide a simple screenshot of the failed installation of paltalk?

Another added benefit. I now have a full fledged NVidia control panel with all the controls of a regular NV GPU - which I didn't get with the windows 7 driver version and that others with this laptop complained about (with the NV 31oo gpu) Not only do I get the nice W10 controls but I get this - all the adjustments I didn't have before.

Now Rich you said your laptop now runs again like a "scalded ape"? This was your email to me. I will tell you this here and now - this laptop runs faster on windows 10 than it did in windows 7. Boots up faster. Everything works which is impressive for a professional grade laptop with fingerprint scanners. I am duly impressed. All drivers were there and worked correctly other than when it was replacing the older W7 version of the GPU driver and went to standard MS drivers before it correctly installed updated nVidia drivers for W10. Now it's snappy as hell.

Not everyone with the 8440p has had the same experience I have had though, most are decent, some excellent, some not good with the W10 upgrade, but from the few threads I have seen because remember again this is a new OS drivers are still coming out there are bound to be exceptions. I am not one of those but again I'm am patient with the installation and procedure and I read up constantrly, and I know not to run too much 3rd party junk on my PC.

All my desktops run faster with windows10 and everyone has different specs. I uninstalled a lot of programs I haven't used for a while before upgrading to Windows10. I think migrating with too much stuff on your computer does have a bearing on overall performance. I see no reason to have Emsisoft on Windows 10. MBAM free as well as defender and my systems are not picking up any malware at all.
I'm sure given time you will find your problems and be a happy Bunny with Windows10, Rich.
You stated previous your Dell needed the OS clean install. Have you done this yet? Trying to update over the top of a dodgy system is wasting time. I have no problems getting onto Paltalk with any computer. I spend up to 5 hrs a day on Paltalk in different rooms without issue. There was a Paltalk audio prob but Paltalk have fixed that.
You need Windows 10 quickly, Rich so you can properly serve your client base. Telling clients Don't touch windows10 is simply burying your head in the sand. Windows 10 is here to stay. Any minor issues I can fix quickly, but they have been mininum to date.

It looks as if I am going to have to wait to upgrade my husbands laptop to Windows 10.
He uses a VPN connection to connect to his desktop computer at work.

I've just discovered that Cisco doesn't have an updated software program yet that is compatible with Win 10.
I don't blame Microsoft for this, I blame Cisco. I went through the same thing years ago with his Win 7 laptop.

Sony E Series SVE 14AJ16L. This was top of the line 14" touch screen and ran so well I never even thought about
using an Ssd drive in this one, it was faster than any pc I had in here by far without one. It came with 8 and of course I migrated to 8.1.

William please don't insult me with suggesting I would live with Microsoft drivers especially chipset and video, that is the first thing I did was find Windows 10 drivers. Now remember something else the screen shake was only when connected to Paltalk so I don't see where the video driver would have anything to do with that.

You guys are all playing the role I did years ago when the world turned down on Vista. I repsect that and someone should fight for it, it needs the help. I am not ruing out Windows 10, I am just invoking the old rule that we wait for Sp1 before going to it. I see no reason folks on Windows 7 need to make the move but I see every reason for those on Windows 8.1 to do so.

The people I am telling to stay on Windows 7 read email on IE, buy tickets on Firefox, read news on Msn or Yahoo home pages and do little else with their computers. My businesses use Quick Books, collect file and scan photos, read news on Msn and a few have special needs such as auto cad but again they will be better suited with Windows 7 they are on because all change does to them is inconvenience them. When things don't work a business loises time and that cannot be replaced with believing they have the newest and the best. What the hell is wrong with waiting till all the bugs are out before taking the plunge? I know this attitude is not the me of the past but so what maybe I have finally seen that the most advanced thing in technology needs to be refined before turning the masses on to it.
