Ok, so I have an old laptop that run vista as an OS and I'm trying to install windows xp onto the vista Laptop.

Here's the problem It boots from CD and it Readies the files to be installed and when it gets to installation time I get an error:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing the video adapters.

Check witch your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mod to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Startup options, and then select safe mode.

    Technical Information:
    *** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005 , 0xF76130BF , 0xF7A5F208 , 0xF7A5EF08)

    *** pci.sys - Address F76130BF base at F760C000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

    End.

I don't know the password to my old laptop thats why i'm trying to install xp. Also I need a way to record with analog signals Like WMM because everytime i try on vista it doesn't record the sound.

It looks like you may be having 2 separate problems. The first is indicative of a possible hardware malfunction and specifically the Hard Drive. Have you done a chkdsk on the machine? I would suggest that as a first step. I am assuming that you have all of your important data backed up. It is also possible that the OS that you are trying to install is either faulty (bad disc) or even not genuine. What kind of a disk is it?

Windows XP and SATA hard drives.....

To fix the problem, enter the BIOS, select the harddrive section and
change the SATA configuration to Autodetect. This should allow you to
complete the installation without the BSOD.
