Help with security and permissions etc.

Discussion in 'Windows XP' started by chocolatemint77581@yahoo.com, Sep 2, 2009.

  1. I am having big time difficulties figuring out how to give full
    control of a directory to
    a limited user.(LU)

I gave the LU full control and ownership of the directory, yet some
files are not allowed to be moved.

I may have made those files while under an admin account.

    Thanks,
    Andy

The files could be locked. What is the exact message you see when you
attempt to move them? What are the file names?

It says "Cannot move email showing payt: access is denied.
Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that
the file is not currently in use.

In order to MOVE a file, you would need at a minimum Write permission on
the destination, Delete permission on the source, and Read on both. on
the other hand you say "email" and that implies an e-mail client may be
involved and the "email" is not a file, but a message inside a e-mail
storage file like a .pst or .dbx.

I think perhaps starting from the top and telling the folks what you are
moving and where you are moving it to and what applications are involved
    will help a lot.

It is a file that I want to move. (.eml)
In the interest of saving bandwidth, I did not type the full filename.

The limited user has full control of the source directory, so I will
check the permissions on the destination directory.

Have you tried moving in while in Safe Mode and without first running your

Yes, if Copy works and Move doesn't, then the issues is the Source. If
neither Copy or Move works then the problem is the Destination.

I did not have the right permissions set on the Destination directory.

I have been customizing my limited user account for use instead of
    using my Admin account.

It can be a real pain going back and forth from admin to my limited
    user account. :)

It would be nice if I could change permissions form an "Admin Prompt"
    while under my LA account.
