HELP! Wireless internet problem!

I've had wireless internet with XP for a while, just basic, built in system.
It has connected to any and all networks i've needed it too, secured and
unsecured. I recently got my own wireless network installed in my room, but
for some reason, my wireless won't connect! my roommates all have connected
to it using the same password and what not, so its not the router. I have no
idea why it won't connect! I've even had one of my roomies, a semi-techie,
take a cursory glance at my settings and properties, and no dice. I need
    professional help!

Check the Wireless Access Point's Encryption method. If WPA2
then your XP may need a patch to be able to connect using that
    security.

    Hi scromi5

Are you using a notebook for the wireless connection? If you're using a
notebook, ensure that the ssid and passphrase is the same on the router
config page as well as the notebook

    Regards

i checked the properties on the network; its just WPA. I rechecked the
passphrase with my roomies, its the same one i'm entering. Still no
connectivity. It won't even show its acquiring an IP address, just
automatically shifts to the next closest network.

The Available Wireless networks should indicate their encryption
method beside the signal strength indicator.

    The patch info/download here:

    Hi scormi5

Ask your room mates to disable the wep or wpa for the time being, once you
configure your ssid and passphrase on the router config page as well as your
notebook wireless connection setting and once you're connected to the
wireless then have they enable back the security (wpa or wep)

If you have any doubt on the router, just look at the manual or post the
make and model of the router and i'll guide you through, alternatively you
could ask your roomates to logged in for you and input your ssid and
passphrase there as well as the notebook

    Regard
